My name is Joshua Greenberg, I am a luthier based in Montreal, Canada…

My name is Joshua Greenberg and I come from Lillooet BC. My Luthier career began in Mexico in 2011 when I began an apprenticeship with Guitar and Jarana builder Daniel Lopez. Later I apprenticed with Banjo makers Jason and Pharis Romero in Horsefly and then master Gypsy jazz luthier Martin Tremblay In Montreal.

I also took two different intensive guitar building courses with Daniel Richter and Sergei De Jonge. With all these varied masterful mentors, I have had the privilege of gaining a wide range of knowledge and ways of building an instrument. I have taken all of this to develop my own methods, and the learning never ends!

As well as being a luthier I have also been a world traveller, timberframer, homesteader and commercial farmer. I am currently living in Montreal balancing a double life as a luthier and a professional musician.

Acoustic Guitars

I imagine a time before amplification, when a powerfully projecting instrument was a necessity!

  • I build all my instruments with this in mind. I believe that in today's world, so many styles of music still sound best in acoustic settings, and I design accordingly.

  • Each Larkspur guitar has an incredible dynamic range that allows the player to truly achieve what they want when they touch their instrument. They are perfectly intonated and balanced from basses to trebles.

  • Their aesthetique is a harmonious marriage of timeless vintage beauty with subtle contemporary flair. Your Larkspur guitar will grow with you as a musician and if treated properly, will last generations.

The shop

Mile End Guitar Coop

The Mile End Guitar Co-op has found its home in the heart of one of Montreal's most vibrant neighbourhoods. This dynamic and collaborative space is shared by 9 others in the trade and fosters a sense of community, knowledge sharing, and continual learning to further strengthen our expertise and creativity in the craft.  My guitars would not be what they are without the great fortune of having a space in this Shop!

LARK·SPUR
Delphinium (Latin)

Growing up in the beautiful mountain town of Lillooet, I was always in awe of the surrounding nature and wildlife. Much of my inspiration comes from this. The purple Larkspur flower is native to this region of British Columbia and blooms early in the spring, not too long after the buttercups and yellow bells. It was traditionally used to poison the tips of arrows for hunting and battle. It’s beautiful, powerful, elegant and striking, and so I thought it was a good fit for the name of my guitar company.
